Dale Koch's Obituary
Dale L. Koch, 84, of Clinton, Iowa died Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Mercy North, Clinton. Services will be 10:30am Thursday, January 28, 2010 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery where Military Honors will be conducted by the AMVETS. Pallbearers will be David and Steven Schwartz, Ardell Wolf, Ken Bott, Matthew Keeney and Karl Kaup. Honorary pallbearers will be Calvin Taylor, Gary Gooch and William Schwartz. Dale was born February 17, 1925 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Fred and Mary (Carstensen) Koch. He married Margie Hitchcock October 9, 1947 in Clinton, Iowa. They have been partners for 62 years. Dale was a WWII United States Navy Veteran. He joined the Navy after graduating from Clinton High School in 1943, returning home in 1946. Most of his time in the Navy was spent on the USS ARKAB naval cargo ship. He traveled 67,000 miles at sea. Dale and his wife have been to many states for ARKAB reunions over the years, with many fond memories. In the summer, he enjoyed camping, riding bicycles, camp fires and games with many friends met over the years. Every week day he went for coffee with the “guys”. He was a member of the AMVETS and Clinton Moose Lodge. Dale owned and operated Koch’s Merchants Delivery Service for 22 years. He delivered for Van Allens and many small grocery stores. He later was employed with Kendrick Pest Control for 20 years, retiring in 1987. Survivors include his wife, Margie; daughter, Debra Keeney and grandson Matthew Keeney all of Clinton, IA; two cousins and a niece. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother-in-law and his sister-in-law.
