Well, Charlie, you have run the race, fought the good fight and now you're receiving your reward. Save a place at the table for us along side Dad & Mom. We love you and will miss you.
I miss you so much already. You were always there to pick me up, to build me, to mold me, to help me become the man I am today. For so many years you never gave up on me or allowed me to give up on my dream. So many times I wanted to quit you were there with encouragement and that smileâ?¦that great big, loving, welcoming, proud smile!! Of course growing up I didnâ??t always see that smile, Lord knows I can definitely bring out the best in people, but when the punishment was done, it was done and that smile and your love prevailed. There are so many lessons I learned from you over the years that I couldnâ??t even begin to list them all. And now knowing everything that I did learn from you I am sitting here wanting to go back and slap that dumbass kid that didnâ??t listen to everything. Maybe it was ADHD, lol, maybe it was being a teenager. I thought I knew it all, you knew I didnâ??t. And when the cub tried to challenge the alpha male you understood, didnâ??t hold it against me and continued to love unconditionally.
I may not have learned how to change the oil in a vehicle, or learn how to work with wood from you but when I look in the mirror and can see what I did learn I can stand a little taller: Honesty, check; Integrity, check; Compassion, check; work ethic, check. The biggest lesson and the most precious gift a father can give his children is to love and respect their mother. That is by far the most significant gift and lesson I have ever learned from you and is one that I will pass on to my children. .
So speaking of lessons learned I remember when I was 9 and we drove from Ft. Bragg to San Diego on Hwy 1. I asked you if I could pee off a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. You just smiled and said â??sureâ??, when I was done and wet!! I turned around and there you stood with a towel and that smile. Donâ??t pee into the wind, check. I love you Dad.
After 30 years with the family there is a lot I could say about Charlie. Not enough space or time!! The most significant thing I can say is that Charlie is the most "positive" person I know. I don't thing I've ever heard him say a negative or harsh word about anyone. He always chose to see the best in people. I'm sure that came from his love of God. Charlie truly tried to show the love of Christ to anyone he met. I am so grateful for the unconditional love he has for my sister and their children and grandchildren. He will be missed, but we have the promise from God that this isn't the end. What Charlie was to this family will be with us always and someday we'll see each other again. Thank you God for family!
If I ever wanted to see the face of Jesus, I would never have to go further than the face of my father-in-law, Charlie. His smile alone showed his love for me, an outsider, one who could potentially steal his little girl away. But he did show me that love, warmth and acceptance, from the very first moment we met, his unceasing and unconditional love flowed freely.
He showed me how to love: God, wife, family then everyone else. His faith and love for Christ was pivotal in his life and was infectuous to anyone who spoke to him. His love for his wife never stopped, even to the end. I will always be using Charlie as a role model for how to love my family.
Pastor Dorn, it is with great appreciation and love in Christ that I write this few words. I never knew my father so you were a great source of inspiration for a young Latino growing up in Tulare. I'll never forget the times that you participated in the many events involving Fe-En-Manana culminating just barely 4 years ago when you gave a very inspirational message during our 35th reunion in Tulare. I managed to find you after all those years and your attendence that evening brought back a lot of warm memories of our youth and the special part that your life played in our lives. The expression on the faces of my classmates that evening when you walked into the room with Susan was priceless! Most of us had not seen you since high school.
You have fought the good fight and now a much deserved crown of Glory is waiting for you in heaven where Jesus himself said that he would prepare a place for us. You have truly earned your place in the Hall of Faith. You have given of yourself to so many of us during our youth, leading by example. You have left a legacy of love and compassion with each one of us and for that we will be eternally grateful.
Here's to you Pastor Dorn. God Bless You.
Susan, may the Peace that passes all understanding be with you and your family at this hour.

Uncle Charlie! I must say you are a one of a kind man. After reading your obituary and reminiscing on your life, I felt so proud to have you as my uncle. You accomplished so much, and ministered to so many, you had such a positive influence on not only your immediate family, but your extended family as well. I have so many wonderful memories of spending time during the summer with you, Aunt Sue, Krista, Eric, Rainbow and Gloria. You were always super friendly and loving. You always opened your door to us and made us feel welcomed and noticed. You will truly be missed! We love you!
I have the best memories of you Charlie! Laughter, fireworks, swim parties. Thank you for sharing your family with me and for always being a loving man who cared for everyone and would always be there with a hug or smile!!
You are going to be missed so much, but I know that you are MUCH happier!!!

Mary and I were deeply saddened to hear of Charles(father Dorn)passing. We want you to know that he touched alot of lives while serving his faith in Tulare. Mary and I offer our heartfelt condolence to his wife Susan and childern. He will be greatly missed. Our prayers are with you.
Charlie was a great help in my early formation as a Catholic Priest. We went a few places together, talked a lot and shared our experiences. We were in "neihboring parishes" in McFarland and Porterville back in '73 to '75. Fond memories!!
We were able to catch up on each other the last time he visited Mariposa and spoke to a group at the United Methodist Church.
My condolances to all his family...and prayers as well
