Charles Sloppy's Obituary
On May 13th, 2009 Charles "Chuck" Sloppy passed away at Crestridge Care Center in Maquoketa, IA. His search for his wife, Marion, has finally ended. Visitation will be Saturday, May 16, 2009 from 10:00 am until noon at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. Graveside services will follow the visitation in Springdale Cemetery. Charles Louis Sloppy was born on November 25th, 1924 to Charles and Lucille (Bentrup) Sloppy. He graduated from Clinton High School. He faithfully served his country in the Unites States Army during World War II and was a proud member of the Clinton AMVETS. He married Marion Louise Hanson on September 7th, 1947 in Clinton. Marion passed away in April 2007. Chuck and Marion were the proud owners of Chuck's Tavern on Camanche Avenue for 40 years. They worked side by side 6 days each week serving up drinks, soup and sandwiches, laughs, advice, stories, and the occasional practical joke. The Iowa Hawkeyes and the Cubs were always part of most conversations as we remember. Those indeed were the best of times for them. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Bonnie (Michael) Willer of Johnston, IA; his son, Charles Sloppy Jr. of Clinton, IA, and one grandson, David Willer of Johnston, IA; One sister, Mrs. Natalie (Steven) Butz of S. Milwaukee, WI, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. During the last two years of Chuck's life he relentlessly searched for Marion. When he arrived at his final destination, we somehow know the first thing he did was ask her to dance. Memorials may be made to the Clinton Humane Society or the Clinton AMVETS.
