Charles Bickert,'s Obituary
Charles A. Bickert, Jr., 83, of Clinton, died Sunday, December 6, 2009, at Crest Ridge Nursing Home, Maquoketa, Iowa. A Memorial Service and Masonic Service will be 6:00pm Friday, December 11, 2009 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 5:00pm to the service time on Friday at the funeral home. Charles Albert Bickert was born on July 3, 1926 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Charles and Lucia (Krava) Bickert. He married Mary Jo Hardersen in 1950. He later married Evelyn Hass Boch; she died in 2002. He then married Gloria Marostica in 2003; she died in 2007. Charles was a 1944 graduate of Clinton High School. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Navy. After being discharged from the Navy he attended Iowa State University. Charles was a master plumber owning his own plumbing and heating business in Clinton during the 1960’s. He then traveled the country working construction as a pipe fitter superintendent. Charles was a member of Western Star Lodge #100, KAABA Shrine and Clinton Scottish Rite Boddies. He enjoyed woodworking. Charles is survived by five daughters: Julie (Phil) Harris and Tracy (Pat) Hoffman, both of Clinton; Susanne (Jack) Upton of Evansville, Indiana, Mary Bickert of Austin, Texas, and Cari (Brian) Fenzel of Clinton; 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Charles was preceded in death by his three wives, his parents, and a sister. Memorials can be made to Jackson County Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association.
