Carol I. Harden's Obituary
Carol Harden, 85, of Clinton, passed away, December 1, 2020, at Prairie Hills- Clinton.
Graveside Services will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, December 12, 2020, at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm at the First Congregational Church–Clinton (mask and social distancing will be required). Carol Irene King was born on August 7, 1935, in Clinton, Iowa, to Chester and Gertrude (Bahwell) King. She was a 1953 graduate of Clinton High School. She married her high school sweetheart, John “Jack” Harden on September 8, 1957, in Clinton. Jack and Carol lived in Maine as he served in the United States Air Force. They returned to Clinton when Jack's tour of duty was over in 1962. It was with great sadness that she lost Jack on May 14, 2010.
Carol worked for Clinco Credit Union as a bookkeeper for 20-years, retiring in 1994. Carol was known for her friendly demeanor, along with diligence, perseverance, and attention to detail with all her work responsibilities. She also worked in the accounting office at Clinton Corn.
Carol was an accomplished organist and pianist. Her musical gift graced many weddings and funerals in the area. A member of the First Congregational Church, she served by playing the organ for more than 50 years.
As a dedicated and loving wife and mother, she served as a past president of the Franklin School PTA, and as a member of Eastern Star, PEO Chapter JW, a former board member of the Sarah Harding Home, and a worthy advisor of Rainbow Girls.
Carol leaves her sons: David (Amy) Harden of Chesapeake, Virginia, James (Roberta) Harden of Clinton, Iowa; her daughter: Karyn (Michael) Peterson of Clive, Iowa. She will be greatly missed by 11 grandchildren (Katie, Lauren, Sally, Jack, Maggie, Rachel, Nathan, Evan, Cole, Drew, Elle and; four great-grandchildren (Josie, Oakley, Madeline, Hannah); and her brother Thomas King (Cindy) of Keokuk, Iowa, her sister-in-law Vonnie King of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one infant daughter Elizabeth Ann, and two brothers, Jack King, and Bob King.
