Brenton A. Baugh's Obituary
Brenton Allison Baugh, of 508 Oakhurst Drive in Clinton, passed away on July 29th at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City after a long and courageous battle with multiple myeloma. He was 88 years old.
Mr. Baugh was born April 17, 1928, in Clinton. He was the oldest of six children of Charles and Margaret (Buchanan) Baugh. A lifelong resident of Clinton, he graduated from Clinton High School in 1946. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy where he served as an Electronics Technician. He made an around the world cruise aboard the USS Valley Forge in 1947-48.
On June 24, 1950, Brenton married Janet Margaret Banker. They were married for 54 years until her passing in 2004. Together they had six children.
Brenton is survived by his partner of the past ten years, Arlene Johnson, his six children: Brenda Baugh of Clinton, Randy (Rita) Baugh of Bettendorf, IA, Dena Banker of Scottsdale, AZ, Curt (Jane) Baugh of Columbia, MD, Andrea Barker of Clinton, and Doug Baugh of Seattle, WA, his brother, Bob Baugh of Davenport and sister, Sharon Prescott of Bloomington, IL.
He is further survived by 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Grand children include Allyson Stonestreet of Clinton, Troy Malone of Clinton, Craig (Kirsta) Baugh -of Chicago, IL, David (Tami) Baugh of Simponsville, SC, Adam (Nichole)Baugh of Omaha, NE, Ryan Fisher of Phoenix, AZ, Stephanie Fisher of Phoenix, AZ, Shannon (Tina) Baugh of Lewes, DE, Kelly (Jeff) Riley of Elkridge, MD, Alex Baugh of Annapolis, MD, Solomon (Shelly) Judd of Low Moor, IA, Annalisa Barker of Clinton, Peyton Baugh of Seattle, WA, and Sawyer Baugh of Seattle, WA. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Gary and sisters Joyce and Audrey.
Mr. Baugh retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1988. He was extremely devoted to his family and constantly sacrificed for others. He was extremely social and could talk to anyone, anytime on any topic. He enjoyed camping and hiking immensely. He loved to cheer on the Iowa Hawkeyes. Driving about town or across country brought him great pleasure. In recent years, he had many happy hours of working crossword puzzles with Arlene.
Visitation for Brenton Baugh will be at Snell-Zornig Funeral Home at 302 3rd Avenue South in Clinton from 4 PM – 7 PM on Wednesday, August 3rd. A celebration of life is scheduled for 10:30 AM Thursday, August 4th, at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Burial will follow in Springdale Cemetery.
