Billie J. Alvis' Obituary
Billie J. Alvis, 77, of Camanche, died Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics – Iowa City, Iowa.
A Private Memorial Service will be held. A visitation will be Wednesday, February 11, 2015 from 4:00-7:00pm at the Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Billie J. Alvis was born on June 10, 1937 in Kell, Illinois the son of Billie and Audrey (Litteral) Alvis. He was a1956 graduate of Mattoon High School. He married Delores Hackett on June 12, 1955, she died March 1977; later married Ruth Best on November 26, 1977; she died February 5, 1999, and later married Jean Hill on May 6, 2000.
Billie was employed with Quantum/Equistar for over 27 years retiring in 1996 as the plant superintendant in the ethylene department.
Billie enjoyed golf, traveling, socializing at the BS General Store in Folletts, and was a former mason.
Billie is survived by his wife: Jean Hill of Camanche; two daughters: Julie Holle of Pheonix, Arizona, and Sue Alvis of Low Moor; three grandchildren: Jennifer (Jason) Hansen, Joann Smith, and Brandi (Michael) Pray; four great-grandchildren; one sister: Sally (Bill) Wilcoxen-Wallace of Allenville, Illinois, and three brothers: Don (Johnadine) Alvis of Mattoon, Illinois, Gary Alvis of Florida, and Butch (Carla) Alvis of Allenville, Illinois.
Billie was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, and five brothers.
Memorials can be made to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Cancer or Neurological Center
