Bill Simko's Obituary
William R. "Bill" Simko, 87, of Clinton passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center-North Campus in Clinton. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Monday, June 1, 2009 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church with Father Thom Hennen officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm Sunday, May 31, 2009 at Schmitz Funeral Home, where a parish vigil service will be held. Burial will be in St. Irenaeus Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandson Michael Marcin , son in law Michael McNellis, and friend Paul Kraciun.
William Richard Simko was born on October 6, 1921 in Cleveland, OH, to John and Elizabeth (Gefert)Simko. He was a United States WWII Army Veteran, serving from 1940-1945 in the South Pacific. He married Mary Ann Koval on March 14, 1942 in Cleveland, OH. She preceded him in death on April 12, 1998.
His career with Carlon Products started in Cleveland, OH. He was a plant manager for 16 years with Carlon Products in Asheville, NC and High Springs, FL. He retired from Carlon Products, Clinton, IA in 1982, with 38 years of service.
He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish and a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed boating, fishing, golf, cooking, visiting the casino, and was an avid Cubs and NBA fan.
Survivors include his daughters: Mary Frances ?Fran? (Michael) McNellis of Morris, IL, and Joy Marcin of Jackson, MI; son William (Debbie) F. Simko of Celina, TN; 3 grandsons: Donny Joiner, Jeff Joiner, and Mike Marcin, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, and 2 brothers.
