Bernadine M. Dehner's Obituary
Bernadine M. Dehner, 97, of Clinton, passed away, Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at the Alverno.
A Funeral Mass will be 11:00am, Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church with visitation from 9:30am to the service time at the church. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Joe Dehner, Jeremy Dehner, Joshua Dehner, Nicholas Jensen, Matthew Henthorn, Christopher Hurlburt, Jace Dehner, and Ryan McKinney.
Bernadine Margaret Lemke was born on September 30, 1928, in Lincoln, Nebraska the daughter of Bernhard and Margaret (Overton) Lemke. After graduating from Lincoln High School she attended St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing in Lincoln graduating in 1949. After graduating she joined her family in Clinton where she worked at the VA Domiciliary. She married George A. Dehner on May 23, 1951, at St. Irenaeus Catholic Church in Clinton and then moved to California while he served in the United States Marines. They would return to Clinton after his honorable discharge in 1954.
Bea worked as a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital and Medical Associates for 30 years; retiring in 1990. She was always a nurse first and was called upon from her family to be stitched up or received a shot from her. She was an active member of Prince of Peace and served in the ladies auxiliary. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and loved watching Caitlin Clark. She loved spending time with her family and following her grandchildren’s events. She also enjoyed playing cards and having a glass of sweet wine.
Bea is survived by her children: Michael (Ellen) Dehner of Anamosa, Iowa, John Dehner of Clinton, Mary (Eric) Jensen of Clinton, Elizabeth Huizenga of Clinton, Phillip (Beth) Dehner of Tucson, Arizona, Cindy (Brian) Gifford of Clinton, and Catherine (Jeff) Hurlburt of Vienna, Virginia; 34 plus one grandchildren, 50 and one on the way great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; her siblings: John Lemke of Clinton, Roger (Judy) Lemke of Cedar Rapids, Phil (Karlyn) Lemke of Fulton, and Phyllis Warren of Clinton; sister-in-law: Jean Lemke of Clinton; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son-in-law: Gary, granddaughter: Natalie, four great-grandchildren: Jesalyn, Jude, Henry, and Max; two sisters: Mary and Ruth; and two brothers: Reinhard and Karl.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Prince of Peace Schools.
