Arlene Matje's Obituary
Arlene M. Matje, 86, of Sabula, IA, died Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at the Alverno Health Care Facility in Clinton, IA. Services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory on Friday, October 19, 2007 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Cremation will follow the service. Burial of the cremains will be held next week at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, in Bellevue, IA.
Arlene was born on July 6, 1921, in Bellevue, IA, the daughter of William and Pearl (Cook) Dieckman. She was a Bellvue High School graduate and attended the University of Dubuque. She married Arthur A. ?Pete? Matje, Sr. January 20, 1940 in Bellevue, Iowa; he died January 22, 1995.
Arlene was a member and very active at Zion Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Ruth Circle and was the Head of the Zion Seniors. She was a former Sunday school teacher and superintendent. She was a member of the Ding-A-Lings, the Young at Hearts. She was a former Girl Scout leader was a volunteer at Whittier School, was active in the Clinton Community Theater, was an avid reader and was a member of the Sabula Library Book Club.
Survivors include her son, Arthur (Susanne) Matje of Eldridge, IA; daughters, Laurel (Roger) Petrich of Siler City, NC and Carol (Volker) Nass of Sabula, IA; 9 grandsons, great-grandchildren and a great great-grandson.
In addition to her husband her grandson, 1 brother, 2 sisters and her parents preceded her in death.
Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or to a favorite charity.
