Alvin J. Thompson, 92, of Camanche, passed away, Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at Genesis Medical Center – DeWitt.
Funeral Services will be 10:30am, Saturday, May 23, 2020 at the St. Mark’s United Methodist Church – Camanche. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery, with military honors being conducted by the Clinton AMVETS Post #28. Serving as pallbearers will be Matthew Troxel, Mark Mulderink, Martin Kearney, Curt Pendleton, Derek Birely, Carter Mulderink, Adam Paysen, Broque Brown, and Sandon Smith. Visitation will be from 9:30am to the service time Saturday at the church. The Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Alvin Thompson was born on May 27, 1927 in Thayer County, Nebraska, the son of James and Marie (Sinn) Thompson. He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He married Elva Hellweg on June 26, 1949 in Camanche; she passed away June 6, 2018.
Alvin worked at Clinton Corn/ADM for 37 years from 1955-1992, and farmed in the area most of his life. He was a member of the St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, the Camanche VFW, and bowling was his passion and was inducted into the Camanche Bowling Hall of Fame in 2001.
Alvin is survived by his daughter: Lori (Larry) Pendleton of Camanche, his son: Randy Thompson of Camanche; 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and his brother: Perry (Marlene) Thompson of DeBary Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son: Dennis, two brothers: Orren and Charlie; sister: Minnie Hebdon, and a stepsister: Nina Hansen.
Memorials can be made to the St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.
