Alvin J. Goerdt's Obituary
Alvin J. Goerdt, 92, of Clinton passed away Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022, at his home in Clinton.
Memorial Mass will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Clinton, followed by a lunch in the church hall. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the service time at the church. Honorary pallbearers will be Timothy Robinson, Jaime Robinson, Carly Saeugling, Ben Goerdt, Heather Goerdt, and Sam Goerdt. Alvin John Goerdt was born September 12, 1930, in Dyersville, Iowa, the son of Bernard and Frances (Sebers) Goerdt. He graduated from Loras Academy in Dubuque and became a CPA after attending Bayless Business School. He married Marion Berning on November 6, 1951, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sinsinawa, Wisconsin. He served as an infantryman in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Al was Chairman of the Board at Clinton National Bank since 1976. He enjoyed spending time with family and had a life-long interest in sports and the outdoors, including fishing, golfing, playing tennis, and rooting for his beloved Hawkeyes and Cubbies. He was always fitness-minded, and could often be seen walking or jogging along the Clinton riverfront or along the shores of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, where they have a home. He loved the Mississippi River, as well as the croplands and landscapes of his native land, Iowa.
He is survived by his wife, Marion Goerdt of Clinton; three children: Janet (Ralph) Schmitz, Stephen Goerdt, and Jeffrey Goerdt; six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Clinton Parks Department.
