Allen Engleking's Obituary
Allen P. Engleking, Jr., 53, of Clinton, died Wednesday, August 10, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family at home. Memorial Services will be 11:00am, Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Dennis Glew officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00am to the service time Saturday at the church. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Allen Patrick Engleking, Jr., was born on January 31, 1958 in Savanna, Illinois, the son of Allen and Dixie (Roos) Engleking. He married Sandra K. Broadrick on April 9, 1988 in Clinton. Allen was a graduate of Riverdale High School in Ft. Meyers, Florida. He was currently a union carpenter with Local #166 in Rock Island. Allen had a passion for music, for years he was an instructor for the Nee Hi's Drum and Bugle Corps in Clinton. He also worked with Clinton High School Marching band drumline, as well as Riverdale, Estero and Port Charlotte High Schools in Florida. Allen loved to be creative, working with his hands. A skilled craftsman in his field of carpentry, he enjoyed making the old new again and seeing what he could make out of the scraps of wood leftover from a project. Yard work was something that didn't scare him off, he enjoyed making his yard a show piece, figuring out what he could plant to draw the hummingbirds and butterflies in. His greatest joy came from his kids and the time that he spent with them, especially when it came to playing video games with them. WII bowling was a favorite, especially since he could rub it in that he holds the highest score. Allen is survived by his wife: Sandy of Clinton; one daughter: Ashley and her fiancé Shane Lieferman of Clinton, one son: Austin Engleking at home, one grandson: Emerson Allen Lieferman of Clinton; his mother: Dixie Comer of Naples, Florida; his sister: Jody (Jon) McWhorter of Thomson, Illinois, two step-sisters: Rita Engleking of Rock Falls, Illinois and Summer (Cale) Szempruch of Naples, Florida; a step-brother: Phillip Engleking of DeKalb, Illinois; brother-in-laws: Bill (Debbie) Broadrick of Clinton, Jim (Barbie) Broadrick of St. Paul Park, Minnesota, Tom (Deb) Broadrick of Clinton, and Matt (Julie) Broadrick of Clinton; his father and mother-in-law: David and Mary Broadrick of Clinton; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Allen was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents. Memorials in lieu of flowers can be made to the family.
