Alice Byers' Obituary
Alice Patricia “Pat” Byers, 92, of Clinton, Iowa, died Friday, November 12, 2010 at the Alverno. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:30am Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Byers, Jeremy Byers, Tony Byers, Patrick Byers, Brian Rettkowski, Jake Byers and David Sheehen. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 16, 2010, from 4:00-7:00pm at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory. Following the visitation her body will be cremated.
Pat was born January 15, 1918 in Clinton, the daughter of William P. and Regina (Hanley) Donahue. She married Jerry W. Byers on July 26, 1942 in Clinton, Iowa; he died May 21, 2010.
She was a 1936 St. Mary’s High School graduate and a 1938 graduate of Mt. St. Clare College. She was employed as a country school teacher in Clinton and Whiteside counties for many years and was also employed at A.C. Nielsen’s for 16 years, retiring in 1980.
She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, the Altar and Rosary Society and volunteered for Mercy Auxiliary.
She is survived by her sons, Michael Byers of DeForest, Wisconsin and Joseph Byers of Flossmoor, Illinois; daughters, Teresa (Henry) Rettkowski of Circleville, Ohio, Mary Ann (Ronald) Myers of Braintree, Massachusetts and Patricia (Roger) Wilkins of Haverhill, Massachusetts, fourteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and her sister, Catherine Donahue of Clinton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two grandsons, one great-granddaughter, one brother and two sisters.
Memorials may be made to the Alverno or Prince of Peace Parish.
