Aletta Elnora McClelland was born on September 17, 1926 in Emmetsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Leona (Webster) McClelland. She married Maynard Olson on December 5, 1958 in Kahoka, Iowa; he died on September 17, 2006.
Letty enjoyed traveling with her husband Maynard. The family would take vacations to Arizona and make sightseeing stops along the way. At home in Clinton, time was spent with her brother and sisters, enjoying each other’s company. After Maynard retired, they moved to Arizona, living there for 25 years before moving back to Clinton. While living in Arizona, she opened a restaurant Letty’s House of Fine Food, which was a very popular spot for the local people and travelers who passed through. It was especially busy when the rodeo came to town. Her homemade cinnamon rolls and lemon pies were especially delicious. She also worked at her grandson’s high school lunch area and Mountain Shadows Resort in housekeeping. After moving back to Clinton, she spent time with her sisters going to the gambling boat and casinos. She also enjoyed going to free pie Wednesday at Village Inn with her daughter, getting a manicure at the nail salon, and watching Jeopardy with her son.
Aletta is survived by her son: Michael Pope, daughter: Mitzi Richter, both of Clinton, Charla (John) Seitz of Arizona; grandchildren: Dawn Kozolaos of California, Don (Julie) Eskew of Camanche, Laura (Scott) Sylvan, Pauletta Seitz, Michael (Kim) Pope all from Arizona, Katie Brown of Clinton, and Jessica Pope of Davenport, 17 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. All were loved very much!
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter: Gloria; son-in-law: Don Eskew, son-in-law: Randy Richter; two infant sons, a great-grandson, one brother and five sisters.
Memorials can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
