Alberta A. Portz's Obituary
Alberta Agnes Portz of the Addington Place, Clinton Iowa, born July 3, 1934, died 10/08/2025 at the Alverno Heath care Center in Clinton Iowa.
She was the eldest of four children born to Anthony & Regina (Roling) Portz, Iowa. She is survived by her son Bryon & wife Nancy Portz, as well as their children Bryan, Rodger & his wife Sabrina. All from Maryland. Her Daughter Brenda Kay Portz is from Iowa. Sister Elaine Myers-Brown Iowa. As well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
She lived & worked most of her life in Clinton and retired from the JC Penney company in 1996. She was an active member of Clinton’s Bethel AME church. In her youth she lived in Clinton & Scott counties and attended Le Claire HS. She was residing at the Addington Place assisted living center in Clinton before moving to the Alverno.
She enjoyed traveling to see her son and family when she was able. Alberta was very helpful to her friends and church members by reading, doing puzzle books, and visiting with them.
Alberta struggled with numerous health concerns in her final days and crossed over peacefully in hospice while at the Alverno in Clinton. Her best friend Kay Scott from Bethel AME church was there to give her support and comfort in her final days.
Ms. Scott remembers her as being passionate about things that concerned her, being strong willed, fiercely independent, a proud church member and advocate for African American history while being a member of the NAACP.
While at Addington Place Alberta was placed in charge of organizing the centers library. Which she Enjoyed immensely.
She completed an extensive genealogy research project on her paternal and maternal parents’ families.
Visitation Services Will be at Snell Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory on Friday October 10, 2025, from 9 AM – 11AM. Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery.
