I remember Beanie taking me to a Dino Kartsonakis concert at Church of the Open Door. She made sure we got seats where I could watch his hands as he played the piano.

Bernice was my football buddy when I was a little boy dreaming of a career in the NFL. On outings where the older kids were off doing their own thing she would always take time to throw the football with me. She loved loving on us three Wheeler children cooking her famous baked beans and paper thin pancakes which were absolutely legendary - just to name a few. She insisted that we invented the game Pictionary and missed the boat in bringing it to market! Her and Donnie were always present in our lives and she really loved a good game night and a good story that had every one of us in stitches! I thank God for the role He had her play in building fond family Christ centered memories to last a lifetime.
Patty always loved her they are in Heaven now together love Jim Burggraaf
Bernice was always a calm loving presence in our family's times of need, as well as an uplifting supporter of my siblings and I during our growing up years. I will always remember her pancakes and the crockpot chicken & rice she would make to help keep us fed while Dad was busy trying to support us. Our prayers are with Don, Stacey and Lance & their families during this difficult time
Bernice and I have been friends for 50+ years. I met her at the old foursquare Church on 8th Ave., South in Clinton. I think the first thing I asked her it was, “are you saved? “. Bernice never let me forget that.
Bernice and I and several other ladies would meet at Mr. and Mrs. Abramson’s to drop off our children so that we could go visit in the hospitals and nursing homes. I’m not sure if we went weekly or monthly or biweekly. But Bernice and I were usually partners in that.
When my family and I moved to Ohio to go to Bible College, Bernice made sure my little girls had something to do while we were on that long trip. I think she raided Stacie‘s toybox and gave my girls some things that they could use. Thank you, Bernice but also thank you Stacie.
Bernice was my Jesus with skin on during the hardest part of my life. She had my back. She helped me with Christi. We went out for coffee and conversation. She was the best friend.
When she was older and her symptoms of muscular dystrophy were developing, she Did not want to use a cane. She didn’t want to just walk into church one day with a cane and people ask about it. So we went to Good’s furniture store in Kewanee and she used her cane and got used to people seeing her with it. She did look very distinguished though. She always did.
What a hard thing it was to watch her body get worse and worse and weaker and weaker. She was a fighter though. I guess a different word would be stubborn. She did not let the disease rule her life. Until the very , very last she was cognizant, she knew what was going on. She’d ask me about my family.
She was the best. I will miss you, Miss Bernice. But I know you’re dancing with Jesus now. You are free. You are free from this horrible disease that has ravaged your body. I’m so happy for you. See ya soon!!!!
(And tell Dawn how much we miss her, please)
Bernice was a strong Christian who had a beautiful spirit. She always had time to give me a hug at church. She listened intently to my problems. She was so loving, and will be missed. Until we meet again..🩷
