Thomas J. Powell, 80, of Camanche passed away, Friday, December 10, 2021 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Visitation will be Friday, December 17th 2021 from 4:00-7:00pm at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Camanche with a 7:00pm Blue Lodge Masonic service. Funeral Services will be 10:30am, Saturday, December 18, 2021 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church – Camanche. Burial will be in the Prairie Union Cemetery – rural Low Moor. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Guy McCausland, Bobby Edens, Bobby Alm, Tracy Anson, Pete Walters, Dan Bark and Jim James. Thomas Joseph Powell was born on October 2, 1941 in Clinton, the son of Dale and Marguerite (Smith) Powell. He was a 1960 graduate of Clinton High School. He married Sharon Johns on August 4, 1963 in Elvira. Tom had 50 years with Millwright Local 2158 between his working years and retirement. After retirement he became a realtor with Better Homes and Garden, wrote building permits for Camanche, and most recently a groundskeeper at Rose Hill Cemetery in Camanche. Tom was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church – Camanche. He was also a 50 year member of Camanche Masonic Lodge and Clinton Scottish Rite Bodies as well as a member of KAABA Shrine and a drummer with the KAABA marching band. He was a master gardener, enjoyed woodworking, camping with his family and co-owned Country Flaré with his wife. He was also known for many things such as: homemade peppermint ice cream at Christmas, black bottom cherry pancakes during camping trips, and his love for grilling and smoking meats. Tom is survived by his wife: Sharon of Camanche; their children: Angela (Pat) Jacobs of Clinton, Wade (Jalel) Powell of Seattle, Washington, and Shannon (Tammy) Powell of Marion, Iowa; nine grandchildren: Kara, Dustin, Rachel, Alec, Cassidy, Peyton, Garrett, Carson, and Niko; three great-grandchildren: Penelope, Lincoln, and Kyler; his sister: Joan (Bob) Grant of Camanche, and his brother-in-law: Marvin Johns of Prescott Valley, Arizona and several nieces and nephews around the country. He was preceded in death by his daughter: Joleen, two granddaughters: Kayla & Karlee, his parents, a sister: Judy, and a nephew: Shawn. Memorials can be made to the family to be disbursed to the charities of their choice.
