James A. John, 95 of Camanche passed away Thursday, March 17, 2022 at his home. Funeral Services will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the United States Navy. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting his obituary at www.snellzornig.com. James Alfred John was born on May 11, 1926 in Bedford, Iowa, the son of James and Hattie John. He graduated from Bedford High School and went on to serve in the United States Navy in World War II as an electronics technician. He later graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He worked at Seagram’s Distillery in Louisville, Kentucky and was hired at DuPont in 1952 as a research and development engineer. He retired in 1985 after 34 years of service. Following his retirement he worked as a consultant and taught electronics and basic electricity at Clinton Community College. He married Doris Osburn on August 25, 1946 in Bedford. Their life was enriched with their children, Vicki and Jim. He was very proud to attend Vicki and Ward's musical concerts at Alleghany College and was made an honorary alumni choir member. Jim and Pam blessed them with grandchildren, Eric and Tina. They spent many happy times with the family. Doris passed away in 2003. He married Wanda Pruett on August 15, 2009 at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Camanche, Iowa. They spent winters in Destin, Florida where they enjoyed their many snowbird friends from their Ballroom Dance Class and the Snowbird Chorus including very special friends Len and Jan Hoover of Binghamton, New York. James was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Camanche. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Hawaii, and was always planning the next trip. He loved gardening, reading, music, cooking and being with family. He is survived by his wife Wanda; son James W. and wife Pamela John of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; daughter Vicki and husband Ward Jamison of Meadville, Pennsylvania; step-children Debra and Dennis Jepsen of Camanche, James and Marcia Pruett of Fulton, Illinois, and Tom (Angie Determan) Pruett of Camanche; three grandchildren: Christina (Matt) Wray of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Eric (Chrissie) John of Hermitage, Tennessee and Austin Pruett of Camanche; four great grandchildren: Amara and Amelia Wray and Everett and Easton John; and several nieces, nephews and extended family in Georgia. In addition to his wife, Doris, he was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and one grandson. Memorials may be made to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.
