Dr. James D. Cherveny

Dr. James D. Cherveny, 81 of Clinton, passed away, Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at MercyOne- Clinton. There will be a private visitation and service at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. A Hawkeye tailgate party will be held in the spring. James Dean Cherveny was born on September 17, 1940 in Toledo, Iowa, the son James and Julia (Hala) Cherveny. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Marshalltown, Loras College and the University of Iowa dental school. He married Donna Brack on August 10, 1963 in Newton, Iowa. Jim was a dentist in Clinton from 1966 until his retirement in 2002. He enjoyed civil war reenactment and was a Civil War historian and writer. He was a member of the Clinton Gyro Club for nearly 50 years. He also was an avid golfer and avid Hawkeye fan. Jim is survived by his wife: Donna of Clinton; three children: Brian (Deb) Cherveny of Montgomery, Texas, Jamie (Curt) Burkhart of Clinton, Iowa, Tony (Kris) Cherveny of Rock Island, Illinios, two grandchildren: Brandon (Hannah) Burkhart of Iowa City, Iowa, and Taylor (Michael Beem) Cherveny of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, Tracy Green of Houston, Texas, and Leah (Edonis) Smith of Huntsville, Texas; and his sister: Virginia “Ginger” McCluskey of Topeka, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister: Darlene. Memorials can be made to St. Jude’s.
