Gary Lee Cox, 72, of Clinton, Iowa died Sunday, October 17, 2021 at home. Visitation will take place Thursday, October 21, 2021 from 10 to 11:00AM at Saint Paul Lutheran Church, Clinton. Services will be held Thursday, October 21, 2021 at 11:00AM at Saint Paul Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery, Clinton. Gary was born June 1, 1949 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Don and Idella Cox. He was educated in the Clinton Schools and was a 1968 Clinton High School graduate. Gary was a United States Navy Vietnam Veteran, serving on the USS Badger. Gary was employed with the Clinton Community School District for 38 years, starting as head custodian at Jefferson. He also served as full-time custodial substitute and later as head custodian back at Jefferson, Gateway Junior High and Clinton High School. In 1998 he moved to the grounds crew with the Clinton Schools. Gary was a member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church, He loved spending time at his cabin in Wisconsin, he enjoyed, fishing, woodworking and racoons. He is survived by his companion and caregiver, Roberta Jurgersen of Clinton; his adoptive family, Mike (Kim) Jurgersen of Clinton; Jim and Michelle Perryman of Clinton; Tate, Ty, Baya, Kaden and Riley, Dale Bott and family, the Jurgersen family and his Saint Paul Lutheran Church family. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and his longtime friend, Ruth Schmidt. Memorials may be made to Saint Paul Lutheran Church or MercyOne Dialysis.
